Easter in the Orient

April 19, 2017

Easter this year was spent in Hong Kong – the concrete jungle that makes even NYC seem a little vertically challenged.

I loved it. I loved its energy, its order, and its love for only the very best. Prada, YSL or (insert any other Designer’s name here you can think of). It has some of the most premium corner shops you have ever seen in your life. And they are everywhere. Its love for the best of the best is endless. Yet despite its deep love for all the premium brands, there is still a strong sense of unique street style.

And let’s talk about them the skyscrapers. Who knew that these epic man-made structures could steal my heart – I mean look at this view. Where else in world can you see architecture like this whilst being on top of a tropical mountain? It really is a view that you never tire of.

And for anyone who thought it was all skyscrapers and shopping. You’d be wrong. There are beaches to die for, temples to visit and hikes to explore. It’s actually, as big cities go, an all rounder, there really is not much you can’t do here. The scope is huge, from high energy fast city living to laidback beach days. And this spectrum of options goes through to everything – dining experiences can come from street vendors or from the very finest in elegant dining. We went to Upper House for drinks and then again for drinks and dinner. It’s a must for anyone visiting this city. For the dining room views and the bathrooms alone. I think the best way to describe it is if Mr Tom Ford lived there he would be very, very happy. As would I, it really is that chic and elegant.

So did it achieve everything I had hoped for a holiday? Yes totally! I came back inspired, and with about a million photos to edit on my Leica camera (I won’t bore you with them here) and endless options for sketching.

But most importantly, did it get me out of my slumps? Yes – totally! I landed in Cape Town refreshed and ready with a new energy, and knowing that London was calling. And with that meant more adventures this time in Europe. Roll on Summer…
